The Fais Do Do Scavenger Hunt: Festival Fun with a Local Connection

Festival Acadiens et Créoles is more than music and food — it’s a living story of our culture. This year, that story will unfold in a new way through the Fais Do Do Scavenger Hunt, an interactive adventure proudly sponsored by LFT Fiber.

What is a Fais Do Do?

The name itself comes from Cajun French, meaning “go to sleep.” Historically, parents would tell their children “fais do do” while they put them down for the night — often in a corner of the dance hall — so the adults could enjoy music and dancing into the early hours.

Over time,“fais do do” came to mean the dance itself — a celebration of Cajun culture, music, and community. It’s the perfect name for a scavenger hunt that brings together the festival’s traditions, connections, and vision for the future.

How the Hunt Will Work

The scavenger hunt is built around three themes:

·        The Roots – tradition, crafts, instruments, and history

·        The Connection – live music, food, and dance

·        The Future – technology, innovation, and the next generation

Festival-goers will complete challenges in each category by snapping photos, answering trivia, and checking in at festival hotspots. The app will track their progress, award points, and display live leaderboards.

Prizes will be available for those who complete at least one challenge in each category, with special rewards for participants who reach 1,000 points.

At the heart of it all will be the LFT Fiber Mosaic Wall, where attendees can add their photo to a growing collage — a shared symbol of Acadiana’s strength through connection.

The Roots: Honoring Tradition

Challenges in this category will invite players to step back in time — capturing artisans at work, identifying traditional Cajun instruments, or answering trivia about gumbo and Clifton Chenier, the “King of Zydeco.” These activities remind us that the foundation of Acadiana’s culture is strong, built on skills, recipes, and sounds passed from one generation to the next.

The Connection: Living Culture

Here’s where festival life takes center stage. Players will take photos of crowds dancing, record short dance videos, or snap their favorite plate of jambalaya or gumbo. Polls will capture which stage has the best vibe, while QR codes will connect participants directly to KRVS, our cultural soundtrack. This is where the festival energy truly comes alive.

The Future: Powered by Technology

In this category, participants will look ahead — spotting where tradition meets technology. A fiddler with an effects pedal. A craft tent using QR codes. Alive word cloud where attendees add their vision for Acadiana’s future. It’s about imagining how our culture will evolve and thrive in a connected world.
