What Is the Broadcast Surcharge?
The Broadcast Surcharge is a fee that every TV provider pays to carry local broadcast stations — like ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and others. These stations charge providers for the right to include their channels in our lineup.
Because these fees are set by the broadcasters themselves (not by LFT Fiber), every provider across the country has to pay them — and those costs continue to rise year after year.
To keep things clear, we list this as a separate line on your bill so you can see exactly what portion of your TV costs goes to the networks that own those local channels. LFT Fiber does not make a profit from the Broadcast Surcharge.
Why Programming Costs Go Up
In addition to local broadcast networks, we also pay fees to hundreds of other cable networks — think ESPN, Hallmark, A&E, Discovery, and more. These are called programming costs, and they make up a significant part of the total cost to deliver TV service.
Each network negotiates rates through national contracts, which means these increases affect all TV providers — large and small — across the country.
As a result, even when we work hard to negotiate the best deals possible, programming costs can still go up each year.
What LFT Fiber Is Doing About It
We understand that no one likes seeing higher prices, and that’s why we continue to look for ways to add more value without adding more cost.
One way we’re doing this is through connecTV, our next-generation streaming platform that combines live channels, on-demand content, and cloud DVR — giving you a modern TV experience that’s flexible and easy to use.
For customers looking for something simpler, connecTV Flex offers a curated set of 50+ popular channels that stream over the internet — without the Broadcast Surcharge.
And whether you have connecTV or connecTV Flex, you’ll also get access to TiVo+, a free streaming network with over 300 channels and 100,000 movies and shows — all included at no extra cost.
Our Promise: Transparency and Choice
We want our customers to understand what goes into their bill and to have options that fit their viewing preferences. Whenever programming or broadcast rates change, we’ll communicate those updates clearly and give you the tools to choose what works best for you.
