Why is LFT Fiber in other parishes and not yet available at my house?

As LFT Fiber has expanded its services to parts of 6 neighboring parishes of Lafayette Parish, local residents understandably have a consistent question.

Why is LFT Fiber in other parishes but not yet available at my house?

It’s a fair question — and if you’re asking it, we understand why.

LFT Fiber was created to serve Lafayette Parish. So when you see us expanding into other areas before reaching every neighborhood here at home, it can feel confusing.

Here’s the story behind it.

Over the last few years, federal broadband grants became available to help close the digital divide in rural communities. These grants were designed specifically to fund infrastructure in underserved areas outside city centers. If we hadn’t applied for and won those grants, the funding would have gone to another provider— and the region would still have been built out.

We saw an opportunity not just to expand, but to serve. By bringing high-speed fiber to neighboring rural communities, we’re helping families, schools, small businesses, and healthcare providers get the connectivity they deserve. That strengthens the entire region we all share.

There’s also a long-term benefit for Lafayette Parish.

As a community-owned network, revenue generated from these new service areas doesn’t leave the state or go to distant shareholders. It’s reinvested. That means growth outside Lafayette helps build financial strength inside Lafayette— funding improvements, strengthening infrastructure, and accelerating future expansion.

Expansion isn’t a detour from our mission. It’s part of the strategy to achieve it.

Our ultimate goal remains the same: every resident of Lafayette Parish should have access to LFT Fiber. Expanding strategically allows us to build a more robust regional network — one that ultimately improves reliability, resilience, and reach here at home.

If you’re in Lafayette Parish and we’re not at your address yet, there’s something you can do that truly helps. Visit lftfiber.com and use the “Check Availability” tool. Even if service isn’t available yet, entering your address shows us exactly where demand is strongest. That data directly informs where we build next.

We’re building for the long term. We’re building responsibly. And we’re building with the goal of connecting every corner of the community that built us.

Because no one connects like we do.

In review -

1.      Our expansion into other areas was made possible by US government grants we applied for, in collaboration with the Acadiana Planning Commission. The grant money would have been given to another company if LFT Fiber had not applied for it. It addresses the digital divide in rural communities, allowing us to positively impact the entire region

2.      Revenue generated from these new service areas will support local initiatives and improvements in Lafayette, as our profits are reinvested back into our community.

3.      We remain committed to our ultimate goal of all residents of Lafayette Parish having access to our services in the future, and our expansion efforts are a strategic way to build resources that will ultimately help us achieve it.

4.      Expanding our reach helps us develop a robust network that can enhance connectivity in Lafayette Parish as well, ensuring that every resident eventually benefits from improved internet access.

5.      For Lafayette Parish residents who don’t yet have access to LFT Fiber, the best way show interest is to enter their address in the “check availability” option on lftfiber.com. Even if we don’t currently serve the entered address yet, it provides leads as the best place to extend our network to next.
