Important Information Regarding Your LFT FiberTelephone Service and Optional Backup Power

Your LFT Fiber telephone service is electrically powered and works with your existing telephones, telephone wiring, and wall jacks. In the event of a commercial electrical power outage, your telephone service—including access to Emergency 9-1-1—may not function unless you have an appropriate backup-power solution.

Optional Backup Power

LFT Fiber offers an optional Backup Battery Unit (BBU) for customers who want to maintain telephone service during a commercial electrical power outage. The BBU provides temporary power to the LFT Fiber equipment supporting your voice service.

An 8-hour backup-power option is available, and an option providing up to 24 hours of backup power is also available upon request. Backup power is optional and is not automatically included with LFT Fiber telephone service.

If you choose to obtain backup power, LFT Fiber will provide information regarding the compatible backup-power solution, including applicable costs, expected operating time, installation, and replacement information.

Where the Backup Battery Is Located

When a BBU is used, it is connected directly to the LFT Fiber Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and is located at your premises in an area where it can be monitored.

The BBU contains indicator lights that provide information about its operating status, including whether your LFT Fiber equipment is being powered by your home's or business's commercial electricity or by the backup battery. The indicator lights can also indicate when the battery needs to be replaced.

See the illustration below for the location of the BBU and an explanation of the indicator lights.

Understanding and Monitoring Your LFT Fiber Backup Battery Unit

Battery Light Indicators:
1. Electricity On:
SOLID GREEN – Battery Valid
SOLID GREEN & RED – Battery Not Valid

1. Electricity Off:
BLINKING GREEN – Battery Valid
NO LIGHTS – Battery Not Valid

If you have a BBU, you are responsible for periodically monitoring its condition and indicator lights and following the manufacturer's or LFT Fiber's recommended testing procedures.

A backup battery may not provide the full expected operating time under all circumstances. Actual backup time can vary depending on several factors, including:

  1. Whether the BBU remains properly connected and installed;
  2. Whether the battery is fully charged;
  3. The age, condition, and capacity of the battery;
  4. The equipment connected to and powered by the BBU; and
  5. The amount of LFT Fiber telephone, internet, television, or other service usage supported by the backup power during an outage.
Backup-power operating time is anestimate and is not guaranteed.

Battery Replacement

Backup batteries have a limited service life and eventually require replacement. Customers who have a BBU should monitor the indicator lights and replace the battery when necessary.

If you believe your LFT Fiber backup battery needs to be replaced, or if you have questions about obtaining or replacing a compatible backup battery, please contact LFT Fiber at 993-4237(99-Fiber).

Important Limitations During a Power Outage

A backup battery is intended to provide temporary power to applicable LFT Fiber equipment during a commercial electrical outage. It does not restore electrical power to your home or business.

If the backup battery is depleted, disconnected, defective, or otherwise unable to provide power, LFT Fiber telephone service—including access to Emergency 9-1-1—may not be available until commercial electrical power is restored.

Customers who require telephone service during extended power outages should consider the optional 24-hour backup-power solution or another appropriate backup-power option.

Restoring Your LFT Fiber Service Using a Generator

If you lose commercial electrical power and own a properly rated portable generator, you may be able to temporarily restore your LFT Fiber services by providing power to the LFT Fiber ONT.

The LFT Fiber ONT is mounted on the outside wall of your home, generally near the electric meter.

Important: Follow all manufacturer and electrical-safety instructions when operating a generator. Never operate a portable generator indoors, in a garage, or in another enclosed or partially enclosed area. Generators should be operated outdoors and away from doors, windows, and vents.

If Your LFT Fiber Power Adapter Is Connected to an Indoor Outlet:

  1. Locate the LFT Fiber power adapter. It will normally be plugged into an indoor electrical outlet and connected through the wall to the ONT.
  2. When commercial power is unavailable, disconnect the LFT Fiber power adapter from the indoor wall outlet.
  3. Connect the power adapter to an electrical outlet or properly rated extension cord that is being supplied by the generator.
  4. Once commercial electrical power has been fully restored, disconnect the power adapter from the generator-powered outlet and reconnect it to the normal indoor electrical outlet.

Using a generator may restore LFT Fiber services temporarily; however, service availability will depend on the generator, the LFT Fiber equipment, and other factors affecting the electrical supply.

See below diagram for your home's ONT configuration:
